The World at Berkeley

International Relations

The International Relations office helps to build a visible and recognizable presence for the University of California, Berkeley internationally. The International Relations office is responsible for leading the University’s international fundraising efforts, with a focus on leadership gifts from the Asia-Pacific region. The University is registered as a non profit entity and has tax exempt status in Canada and England, as well as the United States.

The office also manages select Visiting Scholars Programs funded by international donors.

Effective March 2004, the Office is responsible for coordinating and managing the university’s international alumni clubs. Through social, cultural and intellectual events, clubs provide members an opportunity for ongoing identification with the University. There are currently 25 international clubs, and we encourage you to join a club near you.

The International Relations Office is also responsible for the University’s international media and public relations. As part of its outreach efforts, the office organizes a bi-annual Asian Leadership Conference with rotating venues in various countries. It also organizes other Berkeley symposia, such as the science and technology symposia Bio-Info-Nano: the Convergence of 21st Century Technologies, which was held in Seoul and Taipei in October 2003.

Finally, the office coordinates international travel for the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor-University Relations, and other senior administrators on campus. This includes arranging meetings with major gift donors, prospects, and senior government officials; coordinating alumni events in host cities; and arranging media engagements.
