Attend a special talk, “The Rise of the Universities,” by lecturer Dr. William Tramposch ’71. An optional social at the Bear Inn (6 Alfred St, Oxford) will follow the lecture.

The “university” is arguably the greatest legacy of the Middle Ages. How did universities begin? Why and where did they begin? More specifically, what was student life like in particular for the Oxford scholar after the movement had long reached England’s shores in say, 1380, around the time of Chaucer?  Finally, what Medieval influences still inform and enhance the university we know today?

This talk is part of the Cal Discoveries Travel: Oxford Scholars Program and will also be attended by the program participants.
