Join fellow alumni and friends for a special guided tour of Chi Lin Nunnery and the adjoining Nan Lian Garden. Chi Lin Nunnery is a modern architectural marvel that was built entirely with cypress wood based on Tang Dynasty architecture techniques that use special interlocking systems cut into the wood to hold them in place without the use of any nails. The nunnery comprises 16 halls, a library, a school, a pagoda, a bell tower and a drum tower, covering an area of more than 360,000 sqft. The Nan Lian Garden is a beautifully landscaped Chinese garden with pavilions, terraces, water feature, bridges, koi ponds, old trees and ornamental rocks. We will be joined by Cal alumna and HKU faculty in the Division of Landscape Architecture Cecilia Chu Ph.D. ’12. for this special visit.
Meeting point: Diamond Hill MTR Exit C2 at 9:30am. Note that lunch is optional and will be served at 12:30pm at 志蓮素齋 Chi Lin Vegetarian Restaurant in the Nan Lian Garden.
